The Somerset Food Trail is a celebration of the best of locally produced, delicious and sustainable food. Numerous providers are opening their doors for visitors with an opportunity to see behind the scenes, enjoy delicious tastings and be inspired by the quality of fresh and local produce.

Taking place from Friday 15th - Sunday 24th July, there is plenty of time to visit as many of the producers as possible. With that in mind, there is of course the risk of maybe enjoying all the amazing food & drink just a bit too much... so at The Open Road Experience, we have decided to help you keep things in balance by e-cycling between events....!

Your Custom Food Trail

We customise you a route.

We include your Bucket List of producers (see Participating Venues) plus any other destinations you desire, and ensure a journey on quiet and scenic roads. The route can be direct or round about, depending on your aspirations.

We deliver your e-bikes (or e-tandem)*

Your e-bike will arrive in tip top shape, with water bottle holder, fully charged battery and smart phone holder to navigate by. We are then on call for any mechanicals or problems.

You eat, drink and be merry

And don't worry... there is plenty of room on the rack on the back of the e-bike to pop any purchases.

The shorter first one taking you from Frome to Palette & Pasture, via Nunney, and on to Marston Park, before returning to Frome. The second longer one includes a visit to Mells Village Shop and Cafe, before looping through Cranmore to join the shorter route to Palette and Pasture, Marston Park and back to Frome..

Mells Village Shop & Cafe

The award-winning Mells Café is attached to the village shop and was opened by Great British Bake Off star Mary Berry in 2011, becoming an immediate success, serving freshly-cooked food to local residents, visitors, walkers and cyclists , 7 days a week, all-year round.

Based at Pyle Farm, in the village of Trudoxhill on the outskirts of Frome, Palette & Pasture make their own delicious gelato from the sweet, fresh unhomogenised milk from the dairy herd on the farm and sell it in their own Ice Cream Parlour. 14 flavours of ice cream are available to enjoy by the scoop, alongside sundaes, milkshakes and hot & cold drinks.

Meadowsweet Beef

Meadowsweet Farming company was started in 2020, with a small and well loved herd of cattle who are farmed in harmony with nature, using farming methods that regenerate the soil life and improve the diversity of plants and wildlife on the land.

The Wild Beer Company Brewery

The Wild Beer Co was born out of a love of fermentation, barrel-ageing, and most importantly flavour. They think of their beers as having a unique terroir; their house wild yeast was captured in a neighbouring cider orchard and they often forage seasonal, wild ingredients from around the local area.
